     Competitive Soccer 101    


There are many competitive clubs to choose from, that is why at the

Kearny Bhoys, we take your trust in us to “educate” your child in the game of soccer seriously, while at the same time making it a fun, child-centered experience. We feel, that the best way to make an educated decision about the right competitive soccer team for your child is to contact our coaches and arrange to come out to a practice, meet the coaches and see how the team works. Do your homework; check out all available options so you can make the best informed decision for your child.

 Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions and answers that are specific to our own competitive team, the Kearny Bhoys. 

If you do decide to come to tryouts, please read the questions & answer's below to help you prepare.

 

When are tryouts?

Try outs have ended for the upcoming season. 

We do welcome players that would like to practice with us over the summer and spring season.*

Tryouts have ended for the upcoming season.

 

What are the age requirements for the Kearny Bhoys upcoming season?

This upcoming 2009-2010 fall season will start the end of August.

Players trying out must be born between August 1, 1996 and July 31, 1997.

  

What should I bring to tryouts?
The usual: shin guards, soccer shoes, soccer ball

and a bottle of water or Gatorade.

(NO soda or juice).

 

What should I expect when I get there?
Tryouts are a lot like going to practice. Sessions usually last 1 to 1 ½

hours. Players will participate in drills as a group and finish with some type of scrimmage. The coaching staff will observe each player on skill, speed and  agility.  Players must stay for the entire session.

 

What happens after the tryout? 

Decisions for team players will be made after all try outs are complete.  Each  player will be notified individually via e-mail or regular mail with the coaching staff's decision.

Will I keep my spot if I am already

on the team?

Player spots on the team are not guaranteed. Travel soccer is much more competitive than recreation soccer.  Try outs will be held for all players currently on the team and any new player that is interested. During tryouts all players will be observed by the coaching staff on your skill, speed, agility.   

 

How many spots are available?
NJYSA dictates there will be no more than 18 players per team

for the U-12 bracket.

Which team has the best coaches, and what makes them successful?     

The Kearny Bhoys has one of the best and strongest coaching staff in the region, with all of our coaches having extensive playing & coaching backgrounds. This experience coupled with coaches who instill in their team, integrity, sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, and the highest quality soccer instruction makes the Kearny Bhoys the perfect fit for most competitive soccer players!

 

How much of player and parent time

will be involved in the team?

The Kearny Bhoys have spring, fall and winter seasons.

They will also participate in a few summer tournaments.

 Fall and Spring Season

Practice is held three days per week, 1½ hours per session for the spring and fall seasons.

Games will usually be held 1-2 times per week for the spring and fall season.

Winter Season

Winter practice sessions are held once per week,

1 ½ hr sessions, at an indoor facility.

Winter season games are held on average, once per week.

 

How much travel is involved?

 Depending on the development level of the team and the coach’s plan of action a few tournaments per year are usually average for most teams. We also travel to half of the games scheduled during each season.  

 

Website and other communication tools?     

The Kearny Bhoys have developed this new website  making it convenient to update parents and players on activities as needed and our team also has direct access to the head coach at all times.  

 

*Liability waivers MUST be signed by a parent or legal guardian before a player can practice.
